I’m not certain it’s a bribe, Robot. When you live under the surveillance of government security forces, your world closes in, and it’s difficult to see beyond what’s happening on your own doorstep. I can say that with some certainty, having lived through it in Zimbabwe. Maybe she genuinely believes Trump’s actions have saved Venezuela, who knows? But I completely agree that her gift will not benefit her.
I still have hope that what Trump received is a quickly produced copy.
Or at least, that seems about as likely as that Trump would ever hand over power to a woman. (Especially one who has intelligence enough to more likely be manipulating Trump, than the reverse.)

I understand your anger Kat, but it’s worth being careful about how it is expressed. Outrage is contagious and the fastest route to burnout; it ultimately serves the regime more than it helps the cause.
For context, Machado had been in hiding in fear for her life, for over a year. Leaving Venezuela would have exposed her to the possibility of being disappeared and tortured by SEBIN. In sending her daughter to collect it, she only did what other prize winners in a similar situation have done in previous years. And The Nobel Committee was clear that what she chose to do with the medal was entirely her decision, but that the award itself was not transferable. By their own rules, nothing improper took place.
