My friend, I am in awe of the work and strategic thinking you have put into this. Wow.

Can I forward this to ProPublica’s newsroom? They might also be able to create some noise and even have investigative resources you might not have access to.

Wow. No wonder you were overwhelmed the other day. ❤️

Thank you for caring for us over here. I lived in Colorado and was a telephone company dispatcher during a major wildfire in Bailey, Colorado. Since telecommunications are essential, their employees can cross yellow tape and go into disaster areas. Back then people still had answering machines, and called their homes to see if the answering machines picked up to know if their house burned down. If they didn’t reach their answering machine, they called in and told us their phone wasn’t working, hoping that we would tell them if their house burned down.

Rather than leaving phone company employees on the hook to share this news to the homeowners, we were told to “no access to network interface” the tickets (since it no longer existed). My techs would call me in tears. It was so hard.

Knowing such horrible things as natural disasters are being weaponized by our government makes me so angry. The only word to describe such things is evil, but when your whole country is being liquidated like a slightly too slow corporation in the 90s, the ones profiteering from you don’t care if they leave you with nothing. Getting every last dime out of us is the point.

Thank you Lisa. My little head struggled with this one, especially with the logistics of sharing the docs so they could be cut and paste, links intact, without using Google. Eventually, after many clunky/ failed attempts, I had to give in. But it does seem to work, so the end justifies the means. 😊

Yes, please do forward this to whomever you think might take up the gauntlet.

Your time at the Colorado telecomms company sounds really tough. We so often forget that the impact of climate events like wildfires reach far beyond those in the heart of the fire zone. Which is another reason why I find it so difficult to process the concept of any government deliberately using events this traumatic as a power grab, and an opportunity to make more money. Yet here we are, and in America. It is evil, indeed.

Very interesting. I will try to spread the word. Thanks, Lori.

I really like the "anchored in probability" sentiment. The feat ahead, logically and historically thinking, is not impossible. I choose to see things as a challenge, but this philosophy is definitely challenging.

Lori,

This is remarkable work - thank you. I hope that you are wrong about much of this, but I fear that you are not. These are terrifying times and now that it is clear that the guard rails of American democracy were only built on the sand of political decency, it is imperative that this citizen resistance thrives.

I know this has been posted before, but in case it is new to anyone here: https://www.closertotheedge.net/p/the-declaration-of-resistance

Thank you Agnotolian, I really appreciate your kind words. I hope I’m wrong too — I’d find it far easier dealing with the loss of face, than loss of life.

And thanks for sharing the link — it's a rallying cry worth being reminded of.

Thank you for making this an easy process. I especially appreciate Megan's spreadsheet - although I never found a list of state governors? As for the official government website-provided "contact me" systems not allowing links, I just bypassed that system and sent a regular email.

You’re welcome — it was last week’s ‘labour of love’ for me. ☺️ Megan posted on another Stack that there’s been some problem with the list, though she’s not yet come back to me to explain what that is. I guess we’ll just have to get used to working with moving parts!

Thank you so much for your efforts. I will take these actions and have shared this post. On Bluesky this article then appeared in my feed; might be a useful resource to include in our emails:

I have absolutely no doubt Trump and Republiscums are starting the majority of these fires

I realize that this may not sound like a serious idea (and perhaps it shouldn't be), but...

As long as numerous MAGAts may believe lies about Dems controlling the weather, maybe we should run with it? At the very least it may act to divide a few, though I can't be sure from which group of T-cultists they may peel off. (Not likely the same scale as the Iran bombing, but something.)

Obviously, if the recent Texas Flood had taken place in a Blue State or under a Dem president, we'd hear little other than, "GOD'S VENGEANCE on Dem sinners!" Being in Texas under Trump, of course it's being blamed on Biden.

It seems to me that Trump has created an almost supernatural fear of Biden among MAGA. Maybe there's a future in milking it a little. After all, MAGAts seem happiest when scared.

Thanks CJ, try this: https://www.fema.gov/about/organization/regions . Unfortunately, I don't know how far you'll get with it, now that the centralised register has been taken down.

I've updated the post.

Unfortunately, the copy feature will not work properly. I was glad to send these letters, but probably won’t if I can’t copy what you have provided. I am working off a new iPad Air.

I've tested each of the links, and copied every one of them to emails Beverley, so I don't think the problem is with the copy feature.
