I know I ventured into your "stack" for a reason. Diagnosed with GAD, with intermittent anxiety/panic attacks, many years ago, with help I've managed to live a balanced, relatively low anxiety life for the past 20 years or so.....until...
The current political climate keeps me on edge, always thinking I have to be prepared to debate a Trumpist friend or foe with logic, rational behavior, and facts. It gets to the point where today's ongoing political theatre jumbles my brain, to the point of forgetting all my power points of reason. Kinda weird.
You are not alone. I have had to edit my conversations and walk on egg shells over the last year. Not being authentic to please someone else to keep the peace is difficult. I have had to edit friends, and unfortunately family, out of my life to be true to myself and what I value. This political environment is not normal. It is revealing - the true colors of many people and what they value/prioritize have all come to the surface. Navigating this atmosphere is exhausting and takes a toll on all of us, individually and as a nation. Do what you can to protect your peace. We are in this together.
I particularly appreciate the commenters, here. It is truly amazing, that each and every commenter contributes thoughtfully, and with compassion and respect. It is all the more impressive, because Lori, you welcome all subscribers; not merely those who are in a position to express their gratitude financially.
And despite that openness, this place is free of bots and trolls. That's unheard of, in most newsletters; including ones which only allow paid subscribers to comment. That is a tribute to both your writing, Lori, and, to you, the several commenters, in this space.
I have been having all of these feelings lately worrying about our country and feeling so helpless in how to help stop what is happening. I look forward to reading your advice. This is a terrifying time and we need to be strong and protect our democracy.
In a prior issue, you wrote about an experience during which you talked killers out of thoroughly robbing and killing you, even though they went on, to shoot the next folks they targeted. That's quite a resume, all by itself. I would not have thought it possible, and yet it happened. I'm stunned and impressed, and inspired. And eager to learn your groundedness skills.
The links at the end of this issue, to the 9 different parts to help us begin, is the most clear, concise, list, I've received. This is very helpful, and I've redownloaded each of them, for perpetual reference. Thank you.
