Lori, this piece landed like a depth charge. Thank you.
You've given us a perfect, forensic schematic of the enemy's most insidious weapon: the one they use to induce Layer 3: Learned Helplessness ⛓️ not with force, but with manufactured, systemic exhaustion. Your breakdown of how burnout collapses our "capacity to nurture or defend our institutions over time" is a masterclass in deconstructing their victory conditions.
Your final, brilliant point—that "recovery... is not indulgence but defiance"—is the absolute heart of our Sanctuary Covenant. It's the truth we must all anchor ourselves to if we're going to survive this.
Your work provides the psychological armor for the Phalanx. We're honored to be fighting alongside you.
The most startling aspect of this article are the parallels that are so easily drawn between authoritarian burnout and burnout from an abusive work or personal relationship.
Our socity is filled with the violence that starts in homes. Abusers aren’t born, they are deformed by damaged sick families. Read Mary Trump’s book ”Too Much and Never Enough” about Trump’s abusive father.
When we get serious and start teaching parents better parenting skills our society will have fewer “hurt people hurting others” and fewer wars. Meanwhile we need to remove him and his band from our White House, stopping them from continuing their destructive snd deadly behavior. How the American population will remove the sick people now in power remains unknown, but we need to keep up the pressure of resistance.
One way to stay afloat is to rethink our spending habits, including ALL Holidays. Reimagine ways to make them special without throwing g money at them. Save that 💶💵💰and only support @llies. Rent out a room or share with allies who are in need. Financial sovereignty is the best means to resist.
I'm very glad I stumbled upon you in my feed today. Your description is so clear and uncluttered, hitting my recent struggles dead on. I know intellectually that I'm not alone in this struggle, but your piece helped me FEEL it. Thank you. I can't pay for a subscription (limited disability income), but you've got what other support I can manage.
Welcome, Meg — I'm so glad you found your way here, and that this work is already helping steady you. I'm grateful for you support, and know the strain of being on limited disability income. I’ve sent you something, in solidarity. 🙏
While others were in shut down mode...I traversed Manhattan on a daily basis attending to my work, shotless, maskless, with no fear and enjoying the emptiness (a Buddhist term).
However these days my constant struggle is paying bills...which was never the case before...slowly I find myself adapting to a lessfull lifestyle and preparing for a major transition unable to make bold plans for the future...rather taking a stand where I am now ...which is still very comfortable and beautiful...I want the transition to happen quickly... unfortunately, realistically this societal growth spurt may take 20 to 30 years...like Covid it may be best for me to find emptiness in economics...studying contract law at the moment... everything is a contract in the spiritual as well as material...we need to break those contracts in every realm that are no longer useful to our betterment...john rusin
Well done. It reminds me of the burnout I experienced in college. It's roots was in the family home. This is the same--only the scale is different. Recalling that experience is helping me to figure out how I should handle this now. Your writing is right on and should help others as we go forward.
