I almost wish that were so John. But the picture I’m piecing together from reading the books that inspired Peter Thiel is of nation states that want to keep tabs on the majority of (read ‘the elite will no doubt be excused’) their citizens. It’s chilling.
I have recognized Trump’s love of playing the mafioso don for years. If he isn’t playing the don he is spouting rhetoric that echoes 1930s Germany so loudly it makes me a little sick.
And much of the American media has already bent the knee.
It seems safe to say that in ALL instances in which the White House (and especially "The Cowardly Lyin'") uses the word "negotiation"...
For clearer understanding, each and every instance should be replaced with the far more accurate, "shakedown".
After all, what is Trump if not the OG? (Orange Gangster)
And I can't currently imagine any negotiation in which Trump wouldn't manipulate the fear with which the world now considers his every word and decision.
Lori, That essay required considerable background effort. Thank you.
"Trump" would appear to be an evil genius. He is not that capable. The name and signature are branding that can change with the wind. This correspondent is to old, sick and tired to continue to trace the lineage of the planetary takeover by wealthy Masters of the Universe, but they will be found in the Fortune 100. With certainty, "Prosperity" will trickle down exactly as it did in the time of Pharaohs, Mandarins and Kings, and that is not at all.
Every time I read of a new “accomplishment” by this regime, it sounds more like a shakedown or a tool to further exploit the person negotiated with. All the loopholes and hazy conditions are flashing yellow “caution” signs advertising various ways the US will use trade to control and extort Britain on behalf of the billionaires monetizing the US in a twisted version of the corporate raiders of the early 00s.
The analogy just came to me, and it is applicable and chilling. Companies would buy other companies, absorb what was valuable, liquidate (sell off) everything possible, and auction off the remaining empty hulk to the highest bidder.
That is really the goal of the billionaires who “bought” the US through funding various PACs to get people elected. It makes the tax cuts and their soaring deficits, the slashing of safety nets, gutting of programs, end of oversight. All make sense. This coup isn’t a coup - that already happened. This is a fire sale, and a trade agreement like this sets up the next “company” to liquidate. 😐
None of this showed up in my (admittedly brief, castor-oil-is-good-for-you) morning spin through the papers of record here in the U.S.
So, thank you for that.
I'm beginning to think that, at least for the time being, the word that best describes the U.S. "government" behavior isn't fascism. It's Mafia.
"Nice little country you have here, Starmer," the Orange Man says, "Be a shame if anything happened to it."

Can you DM me a few of the books your reading?
Of course.
